About the Artist

Elzbieta Larsten creates colorful and unique glass apples under the name Happy Apples. Inspired by nature, she combines glass with rusty nails, gold, silver or feathers to capture the magic of life.

Elzbieta Larsten was born in 1968 in Poland and has lived in Stockholm since 1991. Since childhood, she has been curious about glass art and glass. An inner desire and curiosity was deeply rooted in her soul. She felt that the magic was there – warmth, desire, challenge and creativity. She has learned that glass lives its own life, plays, is tricked a little… Many times it doesn’t turn out at all as she had imagined – but sometimes it turns out so beautifully! Elzbieta’s first encounter with glassblowing was in Kosta in Småland in 2008. Since then, her dream of making glass has developed into a passion.

Elzbieta enjoys combining glass with other materials, where nature is a source of inspiration. She uses old rusty nails that characterize her glass apples. Sometimes she experiments with 24 carat gold, silver or other metals to create exciting effects in her glasswork.

Since 2013, Elzbieta has had several exhibitions, including at Galleri Movitz in Stockholm. During October – December 2016 Elzbieta worked with her Happy Apples in Japan as Artist in Residence. The stay ended with an exhibition in Sapporo in December 2016. Planned exhibitions in Japan take place in October in Sapporo and in Tokyo in December 2018.
